Experience Charlottetown's Newest Boutique Hotel

The Holman Grand Hotel is designed in a way where everything has a reason; a reason to experience and a reason to share. Holman…a name shared with former retail giant R.T. Holman of Prince Edward Island. What does a 1850s department store have to do with a 7-story atrium, boutique-inspired hotel? Everything. Holman carved a name for himself and went down in history. And since we’re keen on tradition, we’ll follow suit. After all, that’s the grand idea.

New Hotel Just Weeks Away from Welcoming First Guests

Crews are on the home stretch as construction enters the final stages of The Holman Grand Hotel. In just over a month, the first guests will arrive to stay at Downtown Charlottetown’s newest hotel in 25 years. “The first guests to arrive will be 3 brothers who are coming to the Island to golf,” says Rebecca LeBlanc, Guest Services Manager of The Holman Grand Hotel. However, it is not just tourists who are eager to stay at the new hotel. “A woman from Charlottetown called and wanted to book a room,” said Leblanc. “She wanted to make sure she was among the first guests to stay in the hotel!”

The boutique hotel trend is on the rise across the globe, but few people truly understand what is unique about this type of offering. “Essentially, boutique hotels are more compact and are all about personalized service and sophistication” says John Cudmore, interim General Manager of The Holman Grand Hotel. “They offer everything you’ll find at a chain hotel, but with a distinct level of charm and attention to detail that sets them apart from ordinary accommodations.” The Holman Grand Hotel will cater to guests who want stylish, urban facilities with a full menu of modern convenience in a centralized, downtown setting. . “I am confident this boutique-style will be well received by Islanders and visitors alike” says Cudmore.

Interior hotel features include an extraordinary seven-storey atrium soaring up to the 10th floor skylight and designer guest rooms featuring contemporary, urban décor with luxurious pillow-top beds and linens, spa-inspired ensuites, and large windows framing various views of the downtown, allowing you to see the City from many new perspectives. Tenth floor penthouse suites feature 15 foot ceilings and a wrap-around terrace providing awe-inspiring, panoramic views of the city and harbour Other hotel amenities offered to guests include a heated pool, hot tub, fitness room, naturally lit convention and meeting facilities and a new chef and sommelier driven restaurant, Redwater Rustic Grille.

The Holman Grand Hotel will be physically connected to the main and second level of Confederation Court Mall as well as to Confederation Centre of the Arts via an under street connector. “The connection between Confederation Centre of the Arts, Confederation Court Mall and The Holman Grand Hotel is great for visitors to Downtown Charlottetown, offering convenient access between these three operations year round” said David MacKenzie, CEO of Confederation Centre of the Arts. “We are pleased to have partnered on the under street connector and we appreciate the support of the Homburg organization.” The connector is expected to officially open to pedestrian traffic in mid to late July.

Grafton Street will be re-opening to accommodate full traffic flow and parking in July. “We understand this road closure has been frustrating for the public and we’re glad this will soon be a thing of the past” says Tanya O’Brien, Vice-President and General Manager of Confederation Court Complex. “Unfortunately, it was a necessary requirement of the development and we appreciate that the public and downtown area businesses have been extremely patient.”

Another frequently asked question is “Where will guests park”? The first face of the Holman Grand Hotel is the valet parking attendant who will be delighted to help guests upon their arrival” explains Suellen Clow, Director of Sales & Marketing of The Holman Grand Hotel. Hotel-related parking will be accommodated by the downtown parkades. “CADC and the City of Charlottetown have entered into a joint development agreement with Homburg to expand existing parking garages to meet the additional parking requirements created by the hotel development” said Ron Waite, General Manager of Charlottetown Area Development Corporation. “Detailed planning for the expansion of the garages is currently nearing completion."

The Holman Grand Hotel is just one of the 6 major Homburg Invest projects that make up the total $45 million dollar development in Downtown Charlottetown. Other projects in this massive development include the Homburg Financial Tower on Fitzroy Street, the Confederation Court Mall renovations, the re-facing of the National Bank Tower, the connector to Confederation Centre of the Arts, and the new Shoppers Drug Mart building on Queen Street.
